GARDENS OPEN – Weekend of 17th and 18th June 2017
This is being held again to raise funds for the upkeep of St. Peter’s Church. These events have been taking place every other year for over 25 years and many of the villagers play a part in its organisation. Many people from Dorset and the adjoining counties come regularly.
All monies raised by the event have helped to fund several Church maintenance projects, including a new boiler and repairs to the flooring in the nave. It has also enabled the clock face to be removed and painted as well as work on the clock and organ.
As in the past the 5 acre Manor House Garden and over 20 village gardens will be open from 2pm to 6pm on both days. Entry £5.00 with children under 12 free, but no dogs are permitted in any of the gardens or Tithe Barn. Ample free parking and disabled toilet facilities. The ever-popular cream teas in the Tithe Barn will be available with stalls for Plants and Collectables nearby. A sculpture exhibition will be held in the Manor House gardens and these gardens and the Tithe Barn are open by kind permission of Mr & Mrs A Pitt-Rivers.
The success of Gardens Open 2015 was due to a great deal of work by many village residents and, in particular Susie Burbidge, who has now retired as co-ordinator. At the recent planning meeting chaired by the new co-ordinator Shane Johnstone, garden vouchers and a cheque were presented to Susie in recognition of her work over many years. Its organisers were also very grateful for the financial and other support of a number of local companies and shops including those featured on this website.
Many people have volunteered for key tasks but more help is needed. For all the details please look at Update on the 2017 Gardens Open Weekend in this month’s edition of The Mosaic
Please support this event which is in a good cause and is great fun.
